What is a Mailing List?
A mailing list is similar to an email address, except that when you send a message to a mail list, it is distributed to all subscribed members of that list.
CQU mail lists are managed through an automated program, Mailman, which is web integrated making it easy for users to manage their membership accounts.
Protocol
Students must adhere to all CQUnet Computing Regulations , in particular those relating to use of computing facilities and electronic
mail.
Acceptable Protocol and Usage is to be observed at all times.
Course Mailing Lists
A course mailing list is a forum established for course discussions and interactive communications amongst students of that course.
Not all courses use mailing lists.
Always check your Course Profile for formation on mailing lists.
IMPORTANT CHANGES TO COURSE MAILING LIST SUBSCRIPTIONS
Where a course mailing list exists, ALL enrolled students in that course will be automatically subscribed to the course list using their official university email address (ie studentnumber@student.cqu.edu.au).List membership subscriptions are "refreshed" and updated daily. It is not recommended that students subscribe to the course mailing list using an alternative email address, if so, these will only be effective until the next daily refresh process. This change reflects the new CQU Student E-mail Policy.
What lists are available?
Visit Mailman at http://mailman.cqu.edu.au for a complete listing.
Anti-screen scraper - Accessing Mailman Off-Campus
STOP! Important point to note
If attempting to access mailing lists from outside of the University (ie not using CQU dial-up/VPN or on-campus), to protect email addresses from being picked
up by spammers, portions of the Mailman interface have been password protected by a simple username and password. This ensures it is an actual person
logging in and not an automated screen scraping program searching for addresses.
When the Anti-screen scraper dialog box appears, use Username: mailman and Password: mailman
