Purpose

This page provides instructions on how to upload files (image files in particular) to a blog hosted by Wordpress.

It assumes that you have

1. Writing the post - getting started

The first phase is

  1. Go to your blog
  2. Login
  3. Go to the "Write Post" page for your blog

When you have achieved this, you should see something like the following (click on the image to see a much bigger version of it).

2. Start the upload

Towards the bottom of the "Write Post" page you should be able to see a blue bar that contains the words "Upload Browse All Video". Underneath this bar are the elements you will se to upload your image file.

The process is

  1. Hit the "Browse" button under the blue bar
  2. Use the file dialog box to find the file you wish to upload
  3. Give the file a title
  4. Give it a description
  5. Hit the "Upload" button

The following image provides an example of what your page should look like. It includes arrows to point you towards the appropriate sections.

3. After the upload

Once you have hit the upload button your file will be transfered from your computer to the Wordpress server. It will be stored in a collection of files that you can use in your posts.

At this stage you will see something like the following two images.

You will see the following if you upload a small image to your Wordpress blog

If the image you upload is large, you will see something like this.

The main difference is that Wordpress will give you an option to use a thumbnail (a small version) of your image.

4. Add your image to a post

In the two images in step 3 you may have noticed a button labeled "Send to editor".

If you click on this button it will add the associated image to the editor you use to write a message. Once you have done this you can add more text to the editor, fill in the title line and publish the post.

For example, the following image shows that the title has been filled in as "The logo". This post can now be published.
